Deni Corby

Integrative therapist and Education Officer

Hi, I am Deni. I am an integrative therapist who believes that an informed, ethical, safe therapeutic space is central to any exploration of self. This requires the building of a relationship between myself and my clients, which enables us to work in a collaborative manner.

I qualified in the theoretical approaches of Person Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. I went on to complete a Diploma in Sand Tray Work and attended the NCFED Diploma course for Practitioners Working within Eating Disorders.

I have continued to extend my knowledge within Eating Disorder work by gaining the NEDDE Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Eating Disorders, Disordered Eating and Neurodiversity. As a result, I am now currently working with NEDDE a training organisation, delivering training for therapists and nutritionists on Neurodiversity ,Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating. An area much in need of more acknowledgement, diagnosis and informed safe treatment.

I am the resident therapist on a radio show called 'The Continued Silence' bringing to the public the very hidden and uncomfortable topic of Child Sexual Abuse. This is aired once a month on UK Health Radio with over 1.3 million listeners.

My experiences prior to qualifying as a therapist were:

Personal Fitness Trainers in privately owned gyms.

I then went on to gain a First Class Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sports Science.

I took this into a profession within education, however i quickly became more interested in human behaviour and diversified into a more social care setting, becoming a Manager of a Refuge for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

From there I managed two mental health projects for people returning to the community after stays in hospital, or to support people in order to remain within their support network within their community.

I went on to work for a further 2 years in a project setting up exercise initiatives to enhance the lives of clients living with Schizophrenia or other diagnosed mental health conditions, as an alternative, or in conjunction with medication and therapy.

I returned to Education in the setting of the Youth Offending Team, as an Education Specialist, working in a multi-agency setting with young people on community orders, in custody, or deemed at risk of criminal behaviour. It was here that my growing interest of the therapeutic approach grew and i began my 4 years of gaining my qualification as a therapist.

It is important to feel you have the right person in front of you and choosing a therapist is something i passionately believe has to be about the person, the qualifications and the theoretical approaches. However a sense of being able to feel we can work together in my opinion is crucial.

So please feel free to contact me for an initial discussion and we can begin to get a feel for how we may go forwards in our work together.
